Walt Disney in Paris !

Quite a while since i've posted pictures of Walt, and as the new DLP WDS attraction is the most "Parisian" ride ever built in a Disney theme park here are rare pictures of Walt... in Paris!

On the top, Walt is probably standing at the Place de la Concorde - near the Tuileries garden and the Louvre Museum - and you can see the Eiffel Tower in the back. On the picture below he is also walking Place de le Concorde - see the egyptian obelisk in the back stolen in Luxor, Egypt, by Napoleon - but this picture was shot many years before as you can see that Walt looks younger.

Walt was back in Paris years later with his family during his famous trip to Europe and the three next pictures were shot at that time. On the first one below, all of them are walking down the Champs Elysées avenue, near the Arc de Triomphe.

On the next photo, they stand at the Trocadero Plaza, in front of the Eiffel Tower.

And on this last shot, all of them are on the bridge over the Seine river, just a few meters from Notre Dame cathedral!

Thanks for the pictures Alain, they are really nice!

By the way, the Obelisk in Paris was not stolen by Napoleon; it was given as a gift by the viceroy of Egypt to the French people after Napoleon's defeat and death in exile.

No kidding, Mario? Well, you've learned me something about this obelisk! I always thought it was stolen as the Egyptians would be pleased to get it back at the entrance of Luxor temple. By the way, i've been many times at Luxor temple and i have to say that yes, it is missing as there is his "double" standing at the entrance and you can feel that the other one is missing to have the perfect equilibrium esthetically speaking...

Yes, it was indeed a gift. I've also been there and the Egyptian tour guide was the one who told me that and, if I remember well, he also told me that the king of France gave a clock to Egypt in return.

I also don't think that Egypt should have it back, because it is a great marketing for Egypt in the heart of the world's most visited city. I mean, many people may want to go to Egypt after seeing the obelisk there and there's still A LOT of ancient Egyptian things to see in Egypt.

By the way, Napoleon was really important to Egyptology. It was basically him who started it, since he admired ancient Egypt a lot and took many scientists with him to Egypt to study the ruins and the artifacts; IMO Egypt owes a lot to him...
